Hello Students! I'm sorry to miss out on the day today, but I know you will all do great work while I'm out. Begin your day by checking your SWPPP Binder agenda #8. First: you need to read and sign off that you have read the OSHA Safety Training rules (they have been placed in your binders in Supplemental Material). Signature sheet is on a neon pink clipboard on my little desk. Business Supervisors, ensure that all of your drain group reads and signs in black pen (please don't steal my pen!). Second: You will be making a talk that you will present to the class on Wednesday. To start you off on the right foot, you will need to complete a webquest today at the following site: sites.google.com/a/bckprograms.com/bck-programs-resources/ There are a few things to note when you get toward the end, so read carefully! This was set up for the other schools that have a natural field. High Traffic Group - you should look at Nitrates and Nitrites as part of your research (NOT the turf group). Turf Group - you need to research what the turf is made of, and why you think you are researching metals as part of your contaminants. Here are a few helpful websites for you: About artificial turf A scientific paper on human health effects from turf (this is a tough read - piece through it together as a group!) Roof Group, Parking Lot Group, and Lunch Group - your information is correct on the webquest site, so begin there and keep going on to other reliable sites. From this information, you will be creating a talk, focusing on the pollutant that is specific to your drain group. However, every group will also present a little bit about TSS and its effects - Business supervisors - please help coordinate this between groups so that everyone is not repeating the same information over and over again! TALK REQUIREMENTS You will all be presenting your research on Wednesday! Make a talk that is 5 minutes long (not more than 30 seconds shorter or longer). It must include information relevant to your drain group, and to the larger watershed when all of this water comes together as it flows away from our school (Safety and Drain Sampling roles should be in charge of finding this information). You must include causes of the pollution, and at least one suggestion for reducing that pollutant (BMP Supervisor should be in charge of this part). Presentation supervisor will be giving the talk, so they need to understand every component of this presentation and memorize their talking points - no note cards, no reading off of the slides. Talk with your group members throughout the design and look up additional information to help you understand the topics. Business supervisor should make the talk and check that it has very little text and has a logical flow. We forget that the water cycle and the life cycle are one cycle
