From 8:30am to 3:30pm, in this building, you are a student. From 7am to 4pm, in this building, I am a teacher. As a student you work hard on your projects and assignments. As a student, you have burning questions that you absolutely need answered. As a student you have deadline to meet. As a teacher, it is my job to prepare you to do well on your assignments and projects. As a teacher, it is my job to answer your burning questions and give you adequate time to complete your work successfully and to the best of your ability. As a teacher it is my job to assess your work in a timely manner. However, sometimes students become impatient if their project isn’t graded the day after it is submitted. Sometimes students become frustrated if the burning question they asked in a 10pm email to their teacher isn’t answered immediately. Sometimes teachers become impatient when students beg for extensions. Sometimes teachers become frustrated when students save their burning questions for 10pm emails. What we as teacher and students need to remember before we get caught up in this cycle of impatience and frustrations, is that our lives extend beyond our time together in this classroom.
