Since the internet wasn't really working today, we worked on making ionic compounds in class instead!

Guidelines for your powertalks are as follows: You will go to padlet.com/jlyman1/x8ebylxqc63p and create a new recording. Your recording must be no shorter than 50 seconds and no longer than 1minute and 30 seconds. You should focus on one of your elements or scientific discoveries. What led up to the discovery OR what was the result of the discovery? Please talk about why it is important to society! When you upload it, choose a location to place it that is relevant to the discovery!
Today we will finish up our quick research for our timelines and get some information up on the draft timeline in our room. We will then select some information on the timeline and think about how it connects to previous events (what led up to this to make it possible?), or to future events (what did this new discovery lead to or change?). You will then prepare a one-minute quick talk to record and post to our online padlet!
Timelines
There are several things you will be responsible for when you research your time period. You need to research one of these choices - elements or scientists, and one of these choices - global or local. Whichever one you sign up for, you need to follow those guidelines. Elements or Scientists: Option 1: History of the Elements/Periodic Table: You will research which elements were discovered during your time period and describe the following about them: Valence, charge, common compounds or molecules they make, how abundant are they on earth, why they are important, and what they have changed about society. Option 2: Who’s Who - who are the important chemists of your time period? What did they discover and how has that contributed to society then and today? How did their discovery change what we understand about chemistry? Global or Local: You also need to find out what was going on societally at this time. Your research can fall in one of the following categories: Option 1: Local to the USA, California, or even better, San Diego. What major historical events are happening? Are any of these linked to changes in our understanding of science? Is there something happening that you think our modern understanding of science would have prevented or changed? Option 2: Global Society: Make sure you include events from all over the world, not just Europe! Think about what’s happening globally and what we know about changes in science at the time. Do you think any of these changes in scientific understanding led to society behaving the way it was? Is there something happening that you think our modern understanding of science would have prevented or changed? We did flame tests today! Check out the instagram post!
