Today we worked on many tasks! First, we worked on corrections from our concept check. Second, we continued work on the three assignments on google classroom:
Ionic Compounds was due today! For the second half of class, we started talking about reactions, and introduced the concepts of exothermic (heat producing) and endothermic (heat reducing) reactions! We did some reactions in a bag to check our understanding! Today was a work day on all of our assignments!
Today we worked on many tasks! First, we worked on corrections from our concept check yesterday. Second, we started on the three assignments on google classroom:
Air Quality Project Pre-survey Chemical Bonding Exploration Mini Project on Bonds These should be approached in the order written above! For the second half of class, we started talking about reactions, and introduced the concepts of exothermic (heat producing) and endothermic (heat reducing) reactions! We did some reactions in a bag to check our understanding! Today we did our first concept check and grade reflection. Concept check will be posted online after all students in class have completed it. The grade reflection is here.
Today classes A and B finished up their observations for lab. Did you miss the lab? Here are what the flame tests should look like: Control (methanol) Calcium carbonate Lithium chloride Sodium borate Copper (II) sulfate For the remaining two stations, students should get data from a partner. I can help pair students with a partner as needed!
Today classes C and D did their ionic and covalent bonding lab exploration!
Today we started with some fire labs for Class A and B, and we introduced ionic compounds in Class C and D.
Today we watched this video and took notes on all the key terms included!
Definitions in your notebooks should include: Covalent Bonds, Ionic Bonds, Electrostatic Charge, Electronegativity, Bond Length, and Polarity, as well as general properties of Covalent and Ionic Bonds - whether they are soluble in water, conduct electricity, and what type of form they typically take (solid, liquid, gas). These notes should be in your lab notebook. We also began our latest assignment on google classroom: Chemical Bonding Exploration. This is due Friday! Today we will start to learn about ions, compounds, and the periodic table! If you are missing class today, try this online version to help. Here is the sheet we are working on today. |
Daily AgendasHere you can find all of the daily agendas as we complete them. Missed a day of school? Check here for what we talked about, what we did, and how to make up work! Archives
