Spring 2019: SWPPP
Our spring 2019 project was designing a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) for High Tech High North County.
Students were tasked with measuring levels of pollutants found around the school during stormwater events. These were sent to a professional lab for analysis, allowing students to make informed decisions about the changes that need to be made. Students are listed in the following order: Presentation, Business, Drain, Safety, and Best Management Practices (BMP). Students worked together in groups to maintain and analyze their drains around the school, and to developed methods for improving our stormwater management.

This project would not have been possible without the support of several groups. First and foremost, BCK Programs provided the project outline and significant support, including setting up lab sampling, helping determine our drain plans, and connecting us with funding and the City of San Marcos, which allowed us to purchase a variety of necessary supplies. We could not have done this without them! The City of San Marcos, including Reed Thornberry from the Stormwater Division, helped us fund this project, took us on a cool field trip to look at local stormwater challenges, and allowed us to present our findings at a San Marcos City Council meeting (click button above to see the presentation).
