Dumb Ways To DieInspired by the Australian train safety videos, we delved into the weird world of chemical reactions and the unfortunate outcomes they can have. Students worked in groups of two to create their own video on Dumb Ways To Die. See the original video at left (although I'll warn you, it's super catchy!!).
Student videos were required to have subtitles, to have their own lyrics written, and to involve the chemistry of the reaction. These videos varied widely in subject, from mixing bleach and ammonia to the Hindenburg disaster. They were all based on actual ways people have killed themselves. While a bit morbid, this did serve to remind the students that when used properly, chemicals are safe. However, when used improperly, things can go very wrong! See the videos below.
