You have almost completed chemistry for the semester! Now it's time to reflect on what you have learned, what you would like to see updated in my teaching for next year, and what you hope to see for this SWPPP project from next year's students. Please include the following in your DP update (email me a link to the page to turn in your work!). This is due TUESDAY at 3:30pm.
You must have links to your SWPPP Project Description, your art piece for the Poison/Toxin project, and your final Chem Demo talk. You must include at least one picture from each of those projects (your art piece can count as your picture for poisons/ toxins).
Today we are looking at Best Management Plans (BMPs!). Here is a webquest to help get you started with your understanding of BMPs: Quest for BMPs
Today we will spend some time exploring chemistry, thinking about fun ideas to create experiments, and thinking about what chemists actually do (and how it can be applied to many areas of everyday life as well!). Choose one or more articles from the group below and write a half-page reflection in your chemistry notebook:
What surprised you? What about this relates to your life? How do you think this information came to be know? What kind of research was done? What would you want to know more about?
How do you combat hair frizz with chemistry?
What's the deal with superheavy elements and radiation?
What is going on with the chemistry of a swimming pool? Should you pee in one?
Here are the general required components of your chemistry presentation and project:
DP Update - SWPPP Progress so far - you need a photo of your drain and a description of what you have done so far. Describe what your group is hoping to accomplish with your drain - what needs to be addressed based on your data, and if nothing was wrong with your data, what can you do with that clean water that is currently just running off into the storm drains. Include at least two photos of your drain.
For the next part of this project, you will be working on design solutions. Please describe what area of design solutions you are most interested in working on and why. Solutions can include ad campaigns, engineering solutions for drains themselves, large scale architectural design ideas, art and photography for ads, running seminars/infosessions for other students and the public, drain murals, public campaigns, contacting local businesses, and much more!
Finally, describe what you are interested in doing for a career later in life (if you have more than one idea, go ahead and describe them all; if you're not sure, what do you like doing now that might translate into a career later?). This will help us choose projects for after spring break!
Here you can find all of the daily agendas as we complete them. Missed a day of school? Check here for what we talked about, what we did, and how to make up work!
